Kolkata: A person was beaten up badly in Haldia after he pelted stones at pedestrians. Due to stone pelting, at least 10 persons got injured.The accused person was recovered by the police. He has been admitted to Haldia Sub -Divisional Hospital in critical condition.According to locals, on Sunday around 5 pm, a youth all of a sudden started pelting stones at pedestrians and locals in a drunken state in Makhan Babur bazar area. Later, he also beat people who came close to him with a stick. Due to this, several people got multiple injuries. While the situation got tense, an examination for job was going on in a nearby school. As a result, they were also attacked by theaccused youth. Though locals tried to stop the drunken youth, nobody had the courage to confront him face to face.Later, a few examinees started pelting stones at the drunken youth as well and some of the pedestrians started beating him up using sticks, bamboos and rods. In the meantime, police personnel from Haldia police station arrived and prevented locals from beating him up.He was immediately removed to Haldia Sub-Divisional Hospital, where he has been admitted in a critical condition. The injured pedestrians were taken to hospital. All of them were treated and discharged. Till Sunday night, police could not identify the drunken youth. Investigators already sent his pictures in the surrounding police stations for identification as he is not in a condition to talk.
