Premier League boss believes he is building a future title-winning side

first_img Mauricio Pochettino 1 Mauricio Pochettino believes Tottenham have already laid the foundations to win titles in the future but says his young side must grow up fast if they are to reach their full potential.Spurs’ young stars like Dele Alli and Eric Dier have flourished under Pochettino this season while the club is making strides off the pitch too, with revised plans for their new stadium receiving council approval this week. It suggests Tottenham’s long-term future is bright but there is an opportunity in the short-term too as Pochettino’s side look to take advantage of teams faltering at the top by finally securing a place in the top four.Their momentum took a knock, however, with last weekend’s 2-1 defeat at home to Newcastle, ending a 14-match unbeaten run in the league, and Pochettino admits his starlets must mature if they are to achieve success this season.“It is difficult to be consistent when you start,” Pochettino said.“At Tottenham after 18 months we have put the basis for sure in the future to win some titles. We are sure because the basis is very strong.“We have a very young squad that can only improve for the future. We only need time.“We have the youngest team in the Premier League so sometimes we have to expect that we have bad days, like we had Sunday.“It is important to analyse and say, ‘hey, we need to learn about that and move on quick’ because football doesn’t wait for you.“We take a risk to have a younger player in the squad so we need to help them a lot. That is important to be consistent.“We have been consistent from the beginning but different moments will be tough for them and now they need to have the tools to move forward.”last_img read more

Marcus Rashford invited to England’s pre-Euro 2016 training camp

first_img1 18-year-old Rashford has impressed with seven goals in his first 16 senior appearances for Man United Manchester United’s teenage striker Marcus Rashford has been invited to England pre-Euro 2016 training camp, but it remains unclear if Roy Hodgson will take him to the summer’s finals in France.Rashford, 18, has won many admirers for his rapid rise at Old Trafford, having scored seven goals in 16 games in his debut campaign.Back-to-back braces, against FC Midtjylland in the Europa League and Arsenal in the Premier League, in the first two senior appearances of his career quickly led to calls for an England call-up, and Hodgson refused to rule out the possibility of taking the youngster to the tournament. And it is now understood Rashford will be given the chance to impress ahead of this summer’s finals in France.Hodgson has delayed naming his 23-man squad until Monday, and it is understood Rashford will NOT be on the provisional list. But the Three Lions boss has until May 31 to lodge his final squad with UEFA, which means Rashford may have a chance to force his way onto the plane. The United youngster will be unable to play in England’s warm-up friendly against Turkey at the Etihad Stadium due to the FA Cup final. But he COULD be free for selection five days later for another friendly against Australian at Sunderland’s Stadium of Light.Hodgson is reportedly stalling on deciding who should replace the injured Danny Welbeck.Arsenal’s Theo Walcott, and relegated Newcastle’s Andros Townsend are obviously choices, but  Rashford would well be in the frame if he impresses.last_img read more
