Walden’sSchool of Nursing program seeks faculty members for Master ofNursing Practice (MSN) Core specialty to commit to part-timepositions. This is an opportunity for candidates to share theirprofessional experience and academic knowledge with students acrossthe country and around the world. With a computer and a high-speedInternet connection, the faculty member can teach on his or her ownschedule while maintaining other professional and personalcommitments.GENERAL SUMMARYThe key responsibilities of the position are to teach courses inthe specialty area of core graduate nursing courses. This positionreports to Core Specialty Coordinator in the MSN program in theSchool of Nursing. Part-time (Contributing) nursing faculty memberswill also work with other faculty as well as administrators in theCollege. Additionally, faculty members are responsible formaintaining a program of scholarship and/or practice in the area oftheir specialty, and may assist with faculty orientation,development, mentoring/monitoring, and evaluation; part-time(contributing) faculty may also participate in school anduniversity committee service.What to Expect as a Walden Faculty MemberFaculty members educate Walden University students by effectivelyand proficiently using online technology and resources so thatknowledge, information, feedback, and critique are imparted to andshared with students in thoughtful, carefully formulated, wellwritten, and timely communications. This is accomplished in anenvironment that is respectful of the student, the faculty member,Walden University, and the discipline in which the faculty memberis involved.TrainingAll new faculty members receive specific training from WaldenUniversity in the techniques of online teaching; use of anelectronic learning platform; specifics of the policies,procedures, and degree programs of the School or College in whichthey are going to teach; socialization into the Walden Universityculture; assessment of academic integrity of student work(including use ofwww.turnitin.com); and research supervision oftheses and dissertations. Teaching and mentorship assignments arecontingent upon successful completion of required training. Duringthe first term of teaching, faculty members may be assigned afaculty peer mentor (senior colleague) as an extension of their newinstructor training. Peer mentors will continue to supportinstruction and provide peer reviews of the classroom on a regularbasis.Course Teaching/AvailabilityFaculty members are assigned courses, which are taught using theLearning Management System (LMS), and are responsible forinteracting with students within the LMS. Discussion Boards forclassrooms are open 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. Facultymembers are expected to be in the classroom a minimum of 4 days perweek and responses to student questions must be posted within 48hours. The university suggests regular and predictableavailability, such as online office hours or regular online chats;office hours may be required based on program or collegepolicy.Tools/Technical SkillsTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able toperform each essential duty satisfactorily. Facultymembers must maintain their licenses and any appropriatecertifications in order to continue to teach at Walden University.Faculty members are also expected to maintain currency withresearch by reviewing articles, journals, and presentations. Ifparticipating in research, the faculty member may publish andacknowledge Walden University.TravelContributing faculty members may have the opportunity to travel touniversity events and residencies. When traveling to these events,the faculty member will be expected to fully participate in theevent. For core faculty, there will be required travel throughoutthe year.EDUCATION and EXPERIENCEThe successful candidate will: Earned Masters in Nursing (MSN) AND an earned Doctorate(preferably in Nursing) from an accredited institution, withdemonstrated coursework in one of the three specializations:nursing education, nursing informatics or nursing leadership andmanagement.Candidates should possess a record of professional scholarlycontributions to the field of nursing, preferably in one of thethree specializations (Nursing education, Leadership andManagement, Nursing Informatics).A minimum of two years experience teaching graduate courses inone of the three specialty areas (Education, Leadership/Management,and Nursing Informatics). Commitment to advocating for the learningand development needs of students earning their degrees in adistance learning environment.Experience with distance learning preferred.Evidence of current RN licensure in one of the 50 states in theUS required.Excellent communication, team, and human-relations skills.Certification in area of specialty is preferred (NurseEducation, Nursing Informatics, or Leadership and Management).last_img read more
