Black Florida: Pompano Beach by artist Johanne Rahaman at BaCA February…

first_imgBlack Florida: Pompano Beach by artist Johanne Rahaman at BaCA February 3Johanne Rahaman is an emerging documentary photographer, working in both digital and film formats since 2002.  Her latest work, Black Florida, has been profiled in New Yorker magazine. The collection is an ongoing photographic archive of shifting urban and rural spaces occupied by the Black communities throughout the State of Florida. Rahaman’s images consists of environmental portraits, landscape, architectural and still life images, underscoring the urgency and importance of recording these neighborhoods that are in a constant state of flux.In February, 2017, BaCA will exhibit the images as a result of her focus on Pompano Beach in honor of Black History month, and as a continuing narrative that began with last year’s exhibit, “What’s Your Story?” that showcased portraits of Pompano Beach’s black community in the 1930s. Rahaman’s drive for documenting these communities that mirror her hometown; the stigmatized Laventille Hills of Trinidad, was born out of a sense of duty to offer the public an alternative view of Black ghettos, and ghetto life, unashamedly, as a sense of place, as home.In the absence of newsworthy events, her work takes a look at the simplicities and the complexities of entrepreneurship, beauty, sensuality, aging, mortality, youth, and resilience within the African Diaspora.“Black Florida” is supported by the Economic Hardship Reporting Project (EHRP), an organization who aims to change the national conversation around both poverty and economic insecurity. They commission stories – from narrative features to photo essays and video – that put a human face on financial instability. They fund and place their reportage and photojournalism in renowned and popular sites and magazines, from The New York Times to Slate to MSNBC.last_img read more

SPOTY 2016 – Murray to Mount up Titles

Of course there’s a risk that the public will tire of voting for him, but equally it’s factored into his price that he’s got a track record of a big fanbase supporting him on the night.”A year of impressive sporting feats from countrymen and women however could mean an upset is on the cards. Mo Farah for instance, is priced as high as 20/1 in places, whilst Alistair Brownlee is generally at the 7/1 mark and Laura Kenny is at 25/1 with Stan James. Also reportedly somewhat in the running is Welsh hero Gareth Bale (best odds of 33/1). Reynolds noted: “There’s a strong case for third favourite Mo Farah at 16/1, much as there was in 2012. He’s a popular character but for whatever reason, doesn’t seem to motivate the public to back him strongly enough- just 8% voted Farah when he won Olympic Gold in the 5000m and 10,000m in 2012.“Quite frankly if 7/1 second favourite Alistair Brownlee wins for helping his brother over the line in an event that almost no Brits watched live, it’ll make a mockery of the award. If two American or Kenyan brothers had done the same thing, denying a Brit of a medal- we’d be calling them cheats!”It’s important to note that this is a public vote, and that following his Olympic heroics Brownlee won hearts and minds when he sacrificed his own race to help brother Jonny cross the finish line in the Triathlon World Series in September.William Hill is so convinced that Murray will make it a hattrick of titles that they’ve opened up betting for who’ll finish second to him. William Hill spokesman Rupert Adams commented: “Andy Murray is nailed on to win this year’s award, in fact we are so sure he will win that we have opened betting for who will finish second to Mr Murray.”last_img read more

Of course, both are built around our engaging gameplay features, but the quality of the graphics, animations and sounds are what really bring these games to life.“The game development teams work hard to ensure all facets of the games are true to the theme. For example, in Huangdi, the low symbols were designed to capture Chinese calligraphy, but the creative team had to ensure that the stroke direction and patterns were accurate when recreated digitally.” Delasport elevates online casino offering with Betsoft deal June 3, 2020 Gamesys tops list for GambleAware Q1 donations July 10, 2020 StumbleUponlast_img read more

Bookmakers hurt by reports that government will back FOBTs ‘£2 Nightmare Scenario’

first_img Share The UK betting industry has been impacted by fresh speculation that the government will move to implement a £2 bet limit on FOBTs machine wagering. This morning, UK news sources reported that Chancellor Phillip Hammond had accepted the parliamentary recommendations put forward by the UK Gambling Commission (UKGC), moving to lower FOBTs wagering levels below £10s.On Monday, The Times newspaper had reported that Hammond would move to stall the government’s final judgement on the long-awaited industry triennial review on FOBTs wagering and advertising standards.Parliament insiders had detailed that Hammond and the UK Treasury had concerns regarding a shortfall in taxes generated by FOBTs play, which had not been addressed by policy stakeholders. The news of Hammond’s concerns, had led to further speculation that betting leadership would look to secure a ‘backroom deal’ with the government, seeking to avoid the ‘nightmare scenario’ of a below £10 wagering cut.Nevertheless, this latest twist in FOBTs judgement, has led to an industry-wide share price decline, with all major listed UK betting enterprises recording price drops. As of this morning, shares in William Hill were down as much as 14%, with and an enlarged GVC Holdings, the new owner of Ladbrokes Coral, seeing its share price drop 7%.As yet, neither the UK government or the UKGC have confirmed any final judgement on FOBTs wagering, apart from confirming to industry stakeholders that a reduction in stake wagering will be sanctioned. 6 of the Best – KamaGames’ Sam Forrest

first_img Share Submit Share BGC – Scotland and Wales must come clear on casino reopenings July 28, 2020 Related Articles England’s casinos to reopen on 1 August July 17, 2020 This week’s 6 of the Best comes from Sam Forrest, Director of Global Communications and Content at KamaGames.Keep reading to find out more about South East Asian delights, a musical conundrum and betting regrets.Best HolidayI got to disappear for 4 weeks over last Christmas and visit South East Asia. I managed to get to Malaysia, Vietnam and Thailand with the highlight definitely being a tiny island between Malaysia and Thailand called Koh Lipe. A very chilled out spot with great diving and cold beer – what else could you need!? Wearing shoes upon my return was definitely a challenge as was dealing with going from a 30 degree to a -2 degree climate. Needless to say flights are already being researched for next Christmas although a couple of weeks on the Croatian islands between now and then would be a bonus!Best albumI honestly don’t have one as there are simply too many choices to pick. That said, a staple on vinyl, CD, MP3 and Spotify in one way or another over the years are Raising Hell by Run-DMC and Licenced to Ill by Beastie Boys.Best sporting experienceIt’s was definitely my first visit to Twickenham years ago to see England vs Scotland. Sadly, I don’t actually remember most of the game due to being in a “very sociable” section surrounded by gentlemen who insisted on sharing hipflasks, but needless to say it was a great day, with a great atmosphere… apparently.Best filmTricky as it really depends on mood. I am a real action and sci-fi fan so 13 Hours and BlackHawk Down are going to be up there but I think good old Alien is going to win this one.Best BookLightening by Dean Koontz, a fantastic book. I’ve acquired several copies over the years and normally have a copy with me when I am away on holiday. Oh and I also have a version on my phone just in case. After all, who doesn’t like time travelling Nazis.Best BetWell it should have been at this year’s Grand National with Ucello Conti at £100 to win which would have meant a rather pleasant rest of the weekend for yours truly. Then of course, the 3rd fence from the end changed a night at the Hawksmore to a night at AbraKebabra…. So, a great bet, but not a great result (these were not the calm words I chose to use at the time I hasten to add).
