When people can’t find lasting employment to support themselves and their families, it can be impossible to break out of the cycle of poverty, crime, and incarceration.Flintridge Center’s Apprenticeship Preparation Program readies formerly incarcerated and gang-impacted community members for careers in union construction trades, which offer livable wages and health and retirement benefits. Importantly, unions do not discriminate based on a person’s background. Flintridge Center’s program includes a comprehensive course covering construction math, blueprint reading, visits to unions, and hands-on construction experience. The program also includes life skills such as effective communication and anger management, along with case management, resume building, job search help, and job interview preparation. More information about the APP can be found at www.flintridge.org.Flintridge Center is raising money to provide the resources graduates need to be successful in unions – hard hats, vests, goggles, tape measures, hammers, other tools, and union dues. The summer semester of the program concluded last week, and graduates need these items to start their careers.Help create positive opportunities and transform lives by donating to Flintridge Center’s Tools For Career Success fundraiser at www.crowdrise.com/tools-for-career-success.
