Windies win over Pakistan a step in the right direction – Holder

first_imgWEST Indies captain Jason Holder has hailed a must-win game against Pakistan as a step in the right direction, as the regional team look to improve their overall standings in world cricket.Spurred on by a five-wicket haul from Shannon Gabriel the Windies coasted to a series-levelling 106-run win over Pakistan at Kensington Oval. On a worn-out final day pitch the West Indies dismissed Pakistan for 81 in pursuit of 188 to win.“We had to win the game. We had to win the game to keep the series alive. Everybody knew what was at stake and we wanted to win the game. We want to win the series and we need to start making strides in the right direction,” Holder said following a post-match press conference. The win was the second Test match victory for the West Indies in three Tests and Holder is hopeful it can spur the team to a series win when the third match begins in Dominica on Wednesday.“Everybody knew the importance of the game and it was all about giving a big effort. I told the guys to leave everything out on the park. We highlighted a few areas before this game that we wanted to touch on and I feel we really hit them. It’s just about being consistent and carrying it into Dominica.“The series is wide open and we have the perfect opportunity to win it,” he added. (Sportsmax)last_img
