first_imgLast Friday the local derby of the Donegal League kicked off at Otway when the club team took on neighbours Portsalon in what was always going to be a close and competitive affair. It certainly lived up to it, with four of the five matches going to the wire on the eighteenth, and one match finishing on the sixteenth. With both teams knowing each others home course so well, the result was always going to be close, so Otway were happy that four of the five matches went their way, and victory in one to Portsalon. As the saying goes, it’s only half time, with the return leg at Portsalon on Friday the 8th, when the Otway men will be looking to take a match and a half to ensure their progress to the next round, a result we know the Portsalon men will not give up easily! On a windy day on Sunday, the Macamish Cup was held, with the stroke format proving a tough test of golf in the conditions.Continuing a recent run of good form, Eamonn O’Kane returned a net score of 56 to claim victory, a very impressive result in any weather.Peter McMahon recorded a net 61 to claim second spot, another steady round on a day when most of the rest of the field fell victim to at least one ‘disastrous’ hole, which is fairly common in stroke competition on a windy day at Otway. This Sunday the qualifier for the Fanad Band competition will be held, with the winning four competitors taking part in the Fanad Band classic in Portsalon G C. The format on Sunday in single stableford. OTWAY GOLF CLUB NOTES was last modified: June 6th, 2012 by StephenShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window) Tags:OTWAY GOLF CLUB NOTESlast_img
